From language to working software.

Language Models & Knowledge Systems

Language models can do more than generate text. We engineer conversational experiences, structured generation, and knowledge-aware applications that connect language understanding to real product functionality. The challenge is giving models the right context, constraining their outputs, and making the results useful and dependable.

Inside applications

What language models make possible.

Understand natural language

Interpreting what a user asks for, in their own words, and what an unstructured document or message says.

Conversational interfaces

Letting users work with an application by describing what they want, with answers grounded in the application’s own information.

Generated interfaces and experiences

Turn natural-language intent into structured interface designs, application views, and interactive product experiences within defined platform constraints.

Structured output

Producing data in a form the application can validate and use, rather than free text a person has to interpret.

A language model can be one component of an agentic system, but the two capabilities are different. This page is about what models do with language and context. Planning multi-step work, choosing business capabilities and executing under authorization is covered separately.

The engineering we build

Production language-model engineering is more than prompting.

The model is one component. The engineering is in what surrounds it.

Context and grounding

Giving the model the records, documents and instructions it needs for the task, and nothing it should not see.

Structured generation

Constraining output to a schema so the application can check it and use it.

Integration

Connecting model output to application records and workflows, with permissions enforced by the application.

Validation

Checking output against schemas, business rules and platform constraints before it is used. Deterministic code handles what has to be exact.

Evaluation and operating cost

Testing behavior on representative inputs, and measuring latency, token use and cost.

Delivered

Language-model planning in a production platform.

In the finance operations platform Founding Minds engineered for Medpanel, a language-model planner interprets a user’s request and translates it into a structured plan over 35 registered application capabilities. The application validates the plan and its own services execute it.

It shows structured generation and model integration working in a production business application.

Current engineering

Conversational UI generation.

In development

We are engineering a conversational UI generation system for a no-code application development platform. Its purpose is to let users create sophisticated, visually polished application interfaces through AI chat.

Building conversational UI generation involves translating user intent into structured application representations, maintaining context across interactions, and producing consistent interfaces that respect the target platform’s capabilities and constraints.

Knowledge systems

Using enterprise information responsibly.

Language models are most useful with business information when an answer can be traced to its source and the system knows what it does not know. These are the design approaches we bring.

Grounding and retrieval
Find relevant information, connect model responses to it, and preserve source references.
Enterprise context and access
Respect permissions, maintain relevant application context, and account for missing or stale information.
Structured information
Extract and classify information into usable application data, with validation and uncertainty handling.

Where it breaks

Fluent is not the same as correct.

The failure mode that matters commercially is fluent wrongness. A model that is confidently incorrect is more expensive than one that declines, so we use language models where output can be checked against a source, a schema or a deterministic calculation. In the Medpanel platform, for example, model output is constrained by a schema and validated by the application before anything runs.

Incorrect or ungrounded answers, and incomplete or stale context
Ground answers in retrieved sources, require references, and show the source and its date. Retrieve narrowly, and have the system say when it lacks what it needs. Design explicit behavior for “I don’t know.” Most disappointing projects are ones where nobody specified it.
Output that ignores the required structure
Constrain output to a schema, validate it, and retry or fall back to a defined response when it fails.
Inconsistent responses
Reduce the model’s freedom where consistency matters, test across similar inputs, and keep deterministic steps deterministic.
Prompt injection and untrusted content
Treat retrieved and user-supplied text as untrusted, limit what model output can trigger, and enforce permissions in the application rather than in a prompt.
Latency, token cost and context limits
Choose context deliberately, measure all three, and use smaller models or conventional code where they are enough.
Problems conventional software solves better
Use deterministic code or conventional search when the answer can be known exactly.
Choosing an approach

Language models or conventional software.

A model is a good fit when

  • The input is natural language or unstructured text.
  • The output can be checked against a source, a schema or a rule.
  • Users benefit from describing what they want instead of navigating to it.

Conventional software is better when

  • The answer must be exact, repeatable and defensible.
  • The rules are known and stable.
  • Nobody can say what should happen when the model is unsure.
